What We're Thankful For This Season

The holiday season is the perfect time to count our blessings and express our gratitude to you, our Villagers, and to all the people who make this a great place to live and work. Professor Robert Emmons, the world’s leading expert on gratitude, says it’s one of the “few things that can measurably change people’s lives.” In that spirit, we’d love to share some of what we’re grateful for this season and every day.

 Blog Thankful Aleesha

Aleesha, Village Bank

I am thankful to be home and part of our growing Village. As a community bank, we see daily what our contributions mean to our Villagers both internally and externally. Every day we can feel what we do as community bankers adds to not only our Villagers’ lives but those community members outside of our Village too. There is no deeper feeling of community than knowing that you have contributed to helping another person, even someone you don’t know.

This year we are thankful for family-those who have passed this year and will remain in our hearts and those we will celebrate with during this holiday season. We are thankful to have our parents so close to home. We are blessed to share precious time with our son, Soren's, great-grandparents, who are also very close to home, during their golden years.

 Thankful For General

Ilia, Ramsey

I love to make gratitude a part of my everyday life with my family. We have a decorative board at home that says “Give Thanks,” and we make sure to do that each day. My husband and I have made it a practice to tell our kids every night what we are thankful for, and we ask them to tell us one thing they’re grateful for and how they helped another person that day.

I have so much to be thankful for this year-graduating from college in May, a study abroad experience to Paris and joining the Village in June. I'm also thankful to be our Village Bank team captain for Best Christmas Ever. I can not wait to bless our Best Christmas Ever family with a life-changing Christmas with the help of our generous Village!

 Ivar Thankful For

Ivar, Blaine

I’m thankful for having many friends. I’m thankful to God, for a loving wife, my family, and the people I work with; they are my family too!

I’m thankful I don’t have to go to sleep hungry and worry the next day about where I’m going to get my next meal. I’m thankful I have a warm bed to sleep at night, and I have a roof over my head. I’m thankful I didn’t have to go barefoot and walk miles to school growing up. I’m thankful for the education I have and the opportunities I have been given.

Jess, St. Francis

This year I feel like I have a whole new meaning to “thankful.” Our sweet Mac was born in April, 15 weeks early and is happy, healthy, and striving! Everyday is a huge milestone for us, and I cannot wait for all of our “1st” Holidays in the coming days and weeks!

I am so thankful for my family, particularly these two wild and crazy boys! Brock is eight, Brody is six, and my favorite thing to do with them is anything outside; they are ALL boy!
