What We're Thankful For This Season

The holiday season is the perfect time to count our blessings and express our gratitude to you, our Villagers, and to all the people who make this a great place to live and work. Professor Robert Emmons, the world’s leading expert on gratitude, says it’s one of the “few things that can measurably change people’s lives.” In that spirit, we’d love to share some of what we’re grateful for this season and every day.

 Aleesha Thankful For

Aleesha, Village Bank

I am thankful to be home and part of our growing Village. As a community bank, we see daily what our contributions mean to our Villagers both internally and externally. Everyday we can feel what we do as community bankers adds to not only our Villagers’ lives but those community members outside of our Village too. There is no deeper feeling of community than knowing that you have contributed to helping another person, even someone you don’t know.

Our family has a lot to be thankful for this year! In December of 2017, we welcomed our son, Soren, into the world, and we have had the privilege of caring for him and watching him grow this year. He is a joy-filled baby who loves to smile and loves his dog, Macy. We also purchased a very special home in Forest Lake in June. “The Farmhouse” belonged to my husband Seth’s maternal grandparents. They lost the house in the 1980’s due to a business failure, and we were able to recover the home and the land and bring it back into the family this year. We are very grateful to God for that opportunity, and we are excited to watch Soren grow up in the same house that his dad knew and loved as a child.

 Thankful For General

Ilia, Blaine

I love to make gratitude a part of my everyday life with my family. We have a decorative board at home that says “Give Thanks,” and we make sure to do that each day. My husband and I have made it a practice to tell our kids every night what we are thankful for, and we ask them to tell us one thing they’re grateful for and how they helped another person that day.

I am so thankful for my family, both at home and at work! I feel blessed to be surrounded by loving and supportive people who help make the holidays and everyday special.

 Ivar Thankful For

Ivar, Blaine

I’m thankful I don’t have go to sleep hungry, and worry the next day about where I’m going to get my next meal.  I’m thankful I can turn on the water anytime I want, and I don’t have to boil it to drink it. I’m thankful I have a warm bed to sleep at night, and I have roof over my head. I’m thankful I didn’t have to go barefoot and walk miles to school growing up, I’m thankful for the education I have, and opportunities I have been given.

I’m thankful for having many friends – I regret not being a better friend to those who have been to me. I’m thankful to God, for a loving wife, my family, and the people I work with; they are my family too!

 Sandy Thankful For

Sandy, East Bethel

I’m most thankful this year for my hard-working, supportive tellers in Ramsey and East Bethel!  I had to have surgery this year and needed time off to go to rehab, and they jumped in to be sure everything kept running smoothly for all our Villagers. We are so blessed to work with a committed group of professionals, who are also kind, caring and always willing to take care of each other and our customers!

 Jess H Thankful For

Jess, St. Francis

I am always thankful for my husband Zach, but this year I am even more grateful for the life we’ve built together. Earlier this year I had a dream to buy a new home; even though he thought it was a little crazy, he supported me 100%, and we were able to make it a reality in May! We are so excited to be hosting our first holiday there and to begin building many years of happy memories.

I am so thankful for my family, particularly these two wild and crazy boys! Brock is seven, Brody is five, and my favorite thing to do with them is anything outside; they are ALL boy!

I am always thankful for my three dogs, Lulu, Diesel and Oakley!
