COLETTE DAHLINVICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNITY BANKER Meet Colette Dahlin, your local banker and a top resource for all types of mortgage loan products. Colette joined Village Bank in 2019 because she wanted to be part of a locally-owned community bank and apply her expertise to serving the area where she was born and continues to live. “I was looking for a position in consumer residential lending,” Colette said. “I wanted to work at a community bank.” Colette found the perfect lending position at Village Bank, where every day she can put her two decades' worth of experience to work for her customers. She helps people who are looking to purchase homes, new construction loans, bridge loans, or even ‘self-build loans’ for projects not involving a general contractor. She’s also Village Bank’s in-house expert for customers seeking a home equity loan. Calling herself “an excellent communicator,” Colette relates easily to people who seek mortgage finance products. “I make sure customers know what they are getting into with mortgages, that they understand the product, the terms, the rates, and all the details. ” There shouldn’t be any surprises at closing.” Colette considers herself “very passionate about helping people reach their personal lending/financial goals.” Her advice: “Learn how to manage debt, start saving, always have an emergency fund, and live within your means.” Building and maintaining good credit is also key to good personal financial management, Colette explains. When a poor credit score limits her customers’ borrowing capacity, Colette offers them steps to improve that score. If called for, she also shares outside resources where people can access additional assistance. Recently, she directed a customer to the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, which offers programs to help people with limited repayment resources. Colette understands customers’ concerns over the current rising rate environment. Mortgage rates continue to fluctuate, and inventory remains low; however, things will eventually stabilize. “I’m seeing more people staying in their homes but looking to Village Bank to finance home improvements or additions with a home equity loan.” Throughout her long career, Colette has been inspired to learn and always go the extra mile no matter the situation. “Building relationships and trust are the key to success,” she says. “I now work in the community that I live in, helping local people with their financial dreams of home ownership, home renovations, construction loans and much, much more.” Colette serves on the board at the St. Francis Area Chamber of Commerce and likes to volunteer at different organizations. When not helping her customers achieve their residential dreams, Colette enjoys nature, reading, fishing, and boating, all precious hours spent with family and weekends at the cabin!
